Eddie Long: Megachurch Pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church Die

Eddie Long was an American pastor. Born on May 12, 1953, in Charlotte, North Carolina, he led New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in DeKalb County, Georgia, from 1987.

He built the congregation from about 300 members to about 25,000 and wrote numerous books. He faced scrutiny over his wealth, and in 2010 he was accused of sexual misconduct by several young men; he denied the allegations and the suits were settled out of court.

Long died of an aggressive form of cancer on January 15, 2017, at age 63.
